59. Farm Buildings and West Ferry Inn. The view at this location has now changed as these buildings have been demolished and the road has been widened. The farmhouse on the left of this picture contained a sitting room, three bedrooms, maid's room, kitchen and pantry. Accommodation at the steading consisted of a byre for 28 cows, milk-house, stabie with five stalls, one loose-box, barn, men's bothy and covered court yard. The arabIe land offered for sale amounted to 89 acres. There were also 71 acres of woodland for sale which contained a large number of thriving Scots fir and hardwood trees. The licensed pre mises consisted of a bar, bar-parleur and two sitting rooms. The lowest price at which these properties and land was to be offered for sak was f7,000. West Ferry was once used as a crossing point to Dumbarton on the opposite bank of the Clyde. The ferry at th is location was originally owned by the 12th Lord Blantyre. However, even in the early 1840s this ferry was described as being ilI kept and little used.
