A Sentinel DG4 is shown painted up for deliver to Mutter Howey & Co of Charlatte Street and Guild Street. This type of steam lorry was in production from 1 92 6 to 1 935.
After 193 1 pneumatic tyres were optional but this vehicle has solid tyres and chain drive. With a vertical boiler and Duplex engine, its 11 foot 6 inch wheelbase could carry six or seven tons.
140 An Aberdeenshire family Photographed outside the family farm in Ellon is the Stephen family who later stayed in Aberdeen. ]ames Stephen (barn in 1 866) and his wife Agnes Rait (born in 1 873) are flanked by most of their children. ]essie '[aney' (born in 1914), the author's mother-in-law, appears about nine years old sa the postcard dates to about 1923. Many ofthe family's descendants still live in Aberdeen.
