39 This card depiets Helen Moncrieff with a laad of peat on her back. Note that she is wearing 'rivlins': an old style of footwear made from sheep skins.

40 Peat was not only carried home in 'kishies', but also by Shetland ponies.

41 This photograph was taken on the island ofUnst, at Baltasound.

42 These ponles were taking the peat fuel horne in Unst.

43 This card was taken on the island of Fet1ar, depicting seven ponies taking fuel home. These ponies are taking enough peat to build a peat stack at home, where it will be used daily.

44 Shetland Ponies on the Raad.

Where twined the poth, in shadows hid,

Round many a rocky pyramid.

(Seott)

45 Rooing sheep. Three Halcrow cousins and Phylis Manson from Trondra are seen here raoing sheep. The wool comes away naturally and the sheep are glad to get clear of their wool.

4-6 The rwo peat carring ladies in this picture are bath knitting, and they seem to have stopped the cart for a chat.

47 You ean fly into Sumburgh Airport any day of the week, except on Sundays.

48 Sumburgh Airport is very near Sumburgh Head, which is the furthest north point in Shetland mainland and is very near Jarlshof, the Iron Age Settlement, which is well worth a visit.
